Simpo wins at home

Good guy and hb homeboy Brett Simpson won the us open today at duh! the hb pier.
He has told me many times that he has dreams of winning big at the open. Brett did it right and won 100,000 in da pocket...wow!
From a garden grove grom staring surfing at a later age (14), brett is close to becoming a wct surfer... Great story here..

North Bound

Started the day looking for a different deal then close out wedge. woke up early for the creep factor. Saw spots that i hadnt seen in 15 years... Good Times...

A man died today bodysurfing the wedge. Swell had long interval so deep water and points only, walls of sin at the beachies Summer time in the OC.....

HYPE IT UP!

You know its coming, the hype is all over the net. surfline is shouting it out, Dr George would be yelling it out from the desert to the sea. Its coming, 190 and all that... so if you live in socal and you surf, this weekend is going to be summer sizzle....Only those that know certain things will beat the walls

100 grand

Thats the purse for the US open this year. Hurley stepped up this year upped the ante . As you can imagine, more top pros are coming to HB this year, rumor is that even andy and kelly might show up. This years US Open poster is a photo i took a few years ago. Hurley used my image and tweak it a bit, but i still get paid, and thats a good thing....

Kelly Slater's New Toy

Im old enough to remember kelly when he was a 12 year old grom surfing salt creek in a nssa comp. The word on the street back then was that this little grom could go all the way on the ASP. Well 20+ years and nine titles later, he IS the ASP.
Check out his 2 round dusting of some guy i can't remember from jbay today. Kelly in his mid 30's, surfs better than anyone on this planet.
Rumor mill has it that kelly has his hand in a new pro tour with espn that might show up next year. lets enjoy another 20 years with kelly and see what the freak has in-store for us......

Newport today was small but kinda fun. Laddy from quiksilver brought down his super grom rider Matty P.

Mountains, olson, cr stecyk

Got a call while i was on my way home from san-o. Craig Stecyk of dogtown fame was in the OC.
He was being honored by Cal State Fullerton art students. i grabbed the camera and headed on over. As an added treat, Lance Mountain and Steve Olson were on hand too. CS fullerton has a very nice art center and a great art program, you should check it out...
